"The Pleiades" is my final capstone project for the University of Michigan's Sweetland Minor in Writing. Initially, I set out to chronicle the story of The Pleiades, my Grammy's group of friends that my biological grandmother was also part of. These women have maintained a close friendship for their entire lives, always coming together for love and support in good times and bad. As I learned more about their lives, I learned more about myself. I found connections between The Pleiades and the constellation they named themselves after that I couldn't make up if I tried. According to my Grammy, their story demonstrates that "truth is stranger than fiction." So, this is the final product (for right now, as their story is not over yet...) -
